Gaza, ALRAY – Gaza youth group launched on Saturday morning a day of hunger strike in solidarity with Palestinian refugees in Syria under slogan “I Starve For Them”.

The event took form in a sit-in held in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross’s main office in Gaza City.

A few dozen of children participated in the eventThey shouldered a small wooden coffin stuck on it the names of children killed by drowning, starving and bombing.

78becb34f4bb059ee86edd7a5f7d3accMustafa Matar, a Spokesman for the Palestinian Youth Initiative which organized the sit-in, said to ALRAY “we like all Gaza people say to our families in Syria that we are with you, and stand for you, hold tight your hands in solidarity, and won’t relent in our support with all what we have in hand,”

He added that “Syria’s Palestinians need not only denouncing positions but alive consciences to move for them,”

“We are holding this sit-in for our a sense of responsibility towards the Palestinian refugees in Syria who have been subject to death by shelling, drowning and starving,” he said.

He called on the Palestinian youth to join the initiative in preparation for carrying out a number of field activities in the coming few days aimed at fund-raising for the besieged Palestinians in Syria.

Matar denounced international organizations overlooking the aggravating suffering of Syria’s Palestinian refugees, adding “we will start a campaign to raise money from the besieged Gaza Strip to be sent to the besieged Yarmouk camp refugees through coordination with international bodies.”

Spokesman for Hamas Movement Sami Abu Zuhri who attended the sit-in, in a statement to ALRAY reporter, stressed the need to disengage the Palestinian refugees from the war in Syria “they are just guests, not part of the conflict there.”
