The Committee for Justice in Palestine invites you to join us for our annual Palestine Awareness Week. PAW is a 100% FREE series of events aimed at educating the UC Santa Cruz community about the Palestinian history, culture, and struggle for self determination. This year’s events include:

Welcome to Shuhada Street, an interactive demonstration of the racially segregated conditions in Israeli occupied Hebron will be running Mon-Thurs from 11-3pm

Monday, May 13

Night Event:
The Struggle is Universal: Borders, Prisons, and Labor
Kresge Town Hall, 7pm
Members of CJP and several other student groups will be leading presentations and an interactive workshop discussing the ways in which imposed borders, mass incarceration, and exploitation of labor factor into oppression from Palestine to the US.

Tuesday, May 14

Day Event:
Nakba Memorial
12-1pm in the Quarry Plaza

Night Event:
Remembering the Nakba with Khalil Barhoum
7pm Kresge Town Hall
Dr Khalil Barhoum from Standford University will discuss the forced displacement of over 750,000 Palestinian refugees by Israeli militias in 1948, commonly referred to as al-Nakba (the Catastrophe). This event is considered by many Palestinians to be not only one of the most horrific tragedies in their history, but the birth of 65 years of occupation, conflict, and continued displacement that followed. For many Palestinians, the Nakba never ended.

Wednesday May 15

Night Event:
The General’s Son with Miko Peled
7pm Merrill Cultural Center
Miko Peled is an acclaimed author, human rights advocate, and the son of a well-known Israeli army general. He first began to question Israeli militarism after the death of a loved one in a suicide bombing brought the brutality of the conflict close to home. He now advocates for equal rights for Palestinians, both within Israel and the Occupied Palestinian territories.
